Sewer charges are much more than the original water charge

I asked Dave (5) why he had the spigot in the back yard running full blast and he explained that he was using a tiny bowl to fill our water barrel. Lord, just kill me quickly.

It's good spring break is almost over

15-year-old Katie was literally bouncing off the walls this evening.

"Katie, why are you doing that?"

"This house is just too small for me now!"

I read all the time after "lights out" when I was a kid

My first grader, Claire, said in conversation that she was reading in bed and for a moment I thought history was repeating itself.

"Oh, really? What are you reading?"

"I dunno. I can't read the title yet... but I'm working on it!"

50th wedding anniversary

As of today, my in-laws have been married for 50 years. Wow! I'm going to have the White House send them a greeting to congratulate them. Here's a link in case you are interested.

Well-child visits

5-yr-old Dave weighed 44.2 lbs (75th percentile), 44 inches tall (75th percentile), with a BMI of 16 (70th percentile). The doctor summed up these stats by saying "he's a big kid." He had to get 4 shots in preparation for kindergarten, but he didn't even cry.

7-yr-old Claire weighed 48.8 lbs (40th percentile), 47-3/4 inches tall (45th percentile), with a BMI of 15 (40th percentile). It is so neat to watch them grow!

When the big kids move out someday

Claire: Wait, I don't want Matt's big room. I want Katie's room so I can have ALL of her nail polish.

Bad storms here yesterday

22 dead in NC, 130 injured, 450+ homes damaged in the thunderstorms and tornadoes - really scary. I had picked up my prescription and was doing our Easter Bunny shopping alone at Target in Apex when the storm hit. I was lucky, just completely drenched upon leaving the store (along with everything I'd purchased). I saw a lot of hail, parts of trees, roofing material and insulation falling out of the sky all the way home. My heart goes out to everyone in the shelters and affected by this. There was looting at the destroyed Lowe's Home Improvement Store in Sanford (just south of here) while they could have done a lot better to imitate those much harder hit in Japan by their triple whammy of earthquake, tsunami, nuclear disaster (who aren't stealing and are helping their neighbors).

Mark's brother, Jason, drove up from Augusta, GA for the weekend with our nephew Zack and his cousin, Wyatt (they're both 9). Yesterday, the guys went fishing while I took the boys and our younger two children to the zoo (my big kids had school). I'll add the pictures to Newer Pics! above, but in the meantime here's the synopsis in slideshow form:
