PaPa’s unoccupied house is cold, of course. When the thermostat responded sluggishly, Mark turned on the oven and toaster oven, and left those doors open. When I noted the burning smell, stated that wasn’t safe or effective, and turned everything off, Mark decided to light a fire. He justified it with his own personal tending of “15,000 hours of fire burning in a wood stove” at their old house. This claim is now documented (call me Laura Ingalls Wilder).”
